Thanks to its great Nokia Music and Nokia Mix Radio apps, the Nokia Lumia 800 is our favourite handset right now for listening to music on the move. But while we’ve never been huge fans of music visualisations, the new Lumia Music app might just be the app that changes our mind.

Available in a free, ad-supported version or a paid-for ad-free option, Lumia Music can be downloaded as a tiny 1MB download from the Windows Phone Marketplace for your Nokia Lumia 800. Once installed, the app then displays a wide range of gorgeous visualisations that match the music you listen to.

The great thing about Lumia Music is that it’s not just music stored on your Nokia Lumia 800 that it can play along to. It can also listen to music through the Lumia’s built-in microphone to create visualisations from anything it hears, letting you use it to play along to music heard near you or even to yourself singing.

When we tried it out on our Nokia Lumia 800’s, the visualisations looked great and perfectly matched the music we were playing. Of course once we started singing though, the app closed down and our phone called the police, then switched itself off, so clearly our handset has more taste in music than we do.
