Nokia N8 smartphoneSymbian Belle - or Nokia Belle, to give it it's new name - is set to roll out in February across all Nokia Symbian^3 devices, so whether you're rocking a Nokia N8, Nokia E7, Nokia X7, Nokia C6-01, Nokia C7, Nokia Oro, or even the Nokia 500 you’ll soon be able to enjoy this great OS on your Nokia handset.

Nokia Symbian Belle officially coming February 2012

NokNok reader Supergaurav7 recently posted that he'd been informed that Nokia Belle wouldn't run on the Nokia N8, as the update only works with devices using a 1GHz processor. This got us a little confused as this was news to us, so we got in touch with Nokia UK and they confirmed that all current Nokia Symbian^3 smartphones will receive the Nokia Belle update and will be more than capable of handling it with ease.

If you want a little more proof, then check out what Mark Squires, Director of Social Media for Nokia, had to tell us: 'Nokia Belle is the latest Symbian software release with all-new user interface, improved user experience and dozens of improved and new features. We have already shipped Nokia 603, 700 and 701 with Belle earlier this year, and have received great feedback on the new user experience.'

'To make Nokia Belle available to consumers globally, we will start rolling out Nokia Belle for the already existing Nokia N8, E7, X7, C6-01, C7, Oro, E6, and Nokia 500 smartphones in early 2012. With that, millions of consumers around the world will get a totally fresh experience to their Symbian smartphone.'

Hopefully, this time, basic stuff like a proper split screen keyboard and the search function in music player won’t be forgotten and if I will be lucky enough, after this update I will be able to pair my phone with my pc using bluetooth :)

it wasn’t the BELLE update that required the 1GHZ. It is the CARLA update that requires it. We all knew BELLE was coming to N8 but sadly not the CARLA update :(

Would this new updae be able to let tilt the screen on either side? As right now it is just one side.

  • Arjun

Actually you can do that now in Symbain Anna itself..!!!
Pairing to PC can be done with a bluetooth dongle present and search functions in MP are also present…!!!

    Florin,
what phone do you have? the N8 already has a split screen keyboard function and it can pair with any bluetooth enabled pc

great news, can’tr wait. Hopefully it will keep my N8 fresh enough till a WP super camera phone comes, with fm transmitter, side-load, proper multi-tasking n all the other cool symbian stuff…indeed i dare say that’s nokia’s goal! (fine by me, btw)

Like many, my N8 is out of Contact and gone..replaced.. Belle is way too late to be of any use now except for those who bought them late.
Still have an E7, but not for long. Almost due for replacement also – I flashed leaked Belle on it near 2 mths ago. Official releases are sooooo.. slow.. Carriers are mainly to blame , but not letting Nokia off the hook.

Well just to further muddy the waters, I’ve heard that Carla will be fine on existing devices including the N8, but Donna will require the 1GHz+ processor of later Symbian devices (e.g. the Symbian supercameraphone coming in the first half of the year, and ironically far more high end than any Nokia WP device!).

So suggest we all just stick to believing official announcements rather than random made-up rumours!

Nokia N8, it would be nice having a 1Ghz processor, but too right about those who say to little too late. I agree nokia has a lot to do. Some basic functions such as the nokia store are so problematic, version after version with so much issues.

It is frustrating being a Nokia user.

I have a C7 and the slip screen keyboard in only in messaging and email, not in all the apps. Have a look on the Nokia Discussions forum, many people are having problems pairing their C7 with Windows 7 and Nokia Suite. I can pair my old N95 tho

Got this N8 as a christmas present old phone was a SE W910 believe it or not lasted me nearly three years- yes I know it was supposedly crap but mine wasn’t – anyway since having the N8 I’ve been going round the twist with the OVI STORE and the fact that they won’t let you download ANYTHING to your PC – Great if you have a Data Plan, not so if you don’t so I thought I’d just mention to others an Opera Extension exists that puts a DOWNLOAD BUTTON on the Actual Ovi store download page and by pressing it you can download ONLY FREE Stuff to your computer instead of your phone you still have to be signed in though hope this helps somebody ! -to save them going insane :)

My friend works in Nokia India. He has N8 given by nokia. They are already testing belle on N8. It runs like a breeze on his N8.
According to him, belle would be out in Mid-Jan 2012.

You’ve mistaken. Symbian Belle does not need a 1GHz processor. At no time has said that. Carla Symbian is the update you need 1GHz.
