Nokia N8 smartphone used to take photos of the moonHere at NokNok we’ve always been excited about what is possible with the HD video skills of the Nokia N8. We’d always thought the sky was the limit. Now one clever Nokia user has used the Nokia N8 to shoot the Moon, and even Jupiter. “How is this even possible?” you ask. Read on to see and hear how it was done.

Why the Nokia N8 is still the ultimate Symbian smartphone

After a little DIY work, Michael from TheyCallThisLife did the unthinkable and took apart a Nokia N8. A crime punishable by a trip to the naughty step, sure, but Michael’s intentions took even us by surprise.

Keen astronomer Michael soon rebuilt the Nokia N8, minus the rear casing, hooking it up to his powerful telescope using NASA-approved materials in order to create a Nokia N8-modified telescope capable of gazing at the Moon in incredible detail.

Thankfully TheyCallThisLife uploaded the results to view online for all to see, which are incredible. We’ve embedded the first of the two videos taken below. Be sure to watch to the end, and look out for Jupiter and three of its moons around the one-minute mark.

Peep closely and you can just about make out the faint bands on the planet. That’s the kind of detail you will only ever see with an expensive telescope, made possible with the help of a modified Nokia N8.

The second video is just as awe-inspiring, and sure to get Nokia N8 filmmakers thinking of the possibilities.

In it, the modified Nokia N8 and Michael’s telescope are used to pick out the most intricate Moon craters resembling drops of water up close. It’s inspiring stuff, made possible with the help of the Nokia N8 and its high definition camera, proving that it’s not technology, it’s what you do with it that counts.

What do you think of these amazing videos and do you have any of your own stories of how you’ve used your Nokia N8 to capture some truly unforgettable images on your Nokia smartphone? Why not let us know in the Comments below?

The shimmering is the atmosphere, its what makes stars twinkle.
