So, it's Valentine's Day. Whether you think it's the most romantic day of the year or a cynical marketing exercise, a good number of you will have to tear yourselves away from your Nokia Lumia 800 for at least an evening. Or will you? Here are a couple of tips on how to subtly introduce your Nokia Lumia 800 to this most intimate/sickly of occasions.

Obvious? Why, yes. But if there's one day of the year designed for such tacky gestures, surely it's Valentine's Day. The really meaningful stuff can wait until the anniversary. Have fun!

Send a card

Naturally we mean a digital one. Real cards open up the possibility of nasty paper cuts, which can spoil the romantic mood somewhat. Instead, why not download Valentine Cards and do the job... well, not exactly properly, but at least in a more fun way. Pick a template, choose a smoochy picture from your hub and create your custom Valentine's Day card. Then you can share it via the usual Windows Phone methods. Classy? No. Easy and fun? Yes.

Take some smoochy pictures

If you want to add to your smoochy picture count on the evening itself, download PhotoFunia. It's free and fairly well put together, and it lets you add custom filters to your pictures. Give your romantic evening a twist by snapping you and your loved one with a sepia filter, or max out the puke-o-meter with the "pink heart" or "be my valentine" picture frames.

Find some tasty treats

Music isn't the food of love. Food is the food of love. With that in mind, download Foodspotting, type in "Valentine" in the search field, and check out all the schmaltz-related foodstuffs on sale in  your location. One such search for the London area uncovered heart-shaped donuts, Valentine cupcakes and even Valentine Sushi. Watch out for fishy breath with that last one, though.

Cook a special meal yourself

If you prefer to cook up your own love potions, may we point you in the direction of the Allrecipes app? Typing "Valentine's Day" into the search field brought up such romantic delights as Valentine's Day Salad, Valentine's Pie and more. Click on any of these and you'll be provided with an easy-to-follow recipe guide, complete with finished product pictures and user reviews.

Play the game of love

Or in less nauseating terms, play the free Xbox Live game Breeze while you're waiting for your love to arrive (or, if your evening's really going that badly, depart). Up until the end of Valentine's Day this delightfully flowery game will look a little love-ier than usual. Instead of blowing a white flower around a series of mazes, you'll find yourself blowing a red rose around. The levels, too, are decorated in a more lovey-dovey fashion, with hearts and yet more red flowers and stuff. Ahhh.
