Good news, Nokia 500 owners. You know that Nokia Belle software update Nokia promised you last week? It's arrived! Read on to find out more about the update, and why this makes the Nokia 500 an even more irresistible proposition.

Nokia 500: 10 things you need to know

When the Nokia 500 launched towards the end of 2011, it did so with some decent specs (1GHz processor, 3.2-inch screen, 5-megapixel camera) and a very competitive price point. Unlike its classy brother the Nokia 700, though, it shipped with Nokia Anna rather than the shiny new Nokia Belle OS.

Of course, Nokia has been updating its fleet with the brilliant new operating system in recent days. The likes of the  Nokia N8Nokia C7Nokia C6-01 and Nokia X7 have already received Belle, and now it's the turn of the Nokia 500.

Why should you care? Nokia Belle is a major revamp of the Symbian OS Nokia has been using for a number of years. It brings a fresh, sharp user interface with considerably less clutter and larger and more flexible icons and widgets. You can now place app shortcuts directly on the main screen without having to add a widget strip, and there's also a handy pull-down status bar containing notifications and essential shortcuts (such as a Wi-Fi switch).

Nokia Belle will start rolling out to Nokia 500 users around the world from today, though it'll be a staggered release so not everyone will get it immediately.
