The Nokia Maps 2.0.21.304 firmware update struck this week and we found that on our Nokia Lumia 900, which is running the new Tango update, got the firmware upgrade pretty much straight away. Check out our Nokia Maps 2.0.21.304 hands-on for Windows Phone and see the major changes for yourself.

The Nokia Maps 2.0.21.304 update for Windows Phone isn’t just a basic dust down and a refresh of some dodgy bits, it’s actually a chance for Nokia to give the whole app a fresh new look and a greta degree of user involvement.

The first thing you’ll notice with Nokia Maps 2.0.21.304 is how much quicker it loads, smooth and fluid it opens and immediately drills down into you current location. Once you’re in place you’ll notice that the basic layout has changed. Gone are the four function buttons on the bottom of the screen in favour of a tidy and hidden away look.

In the bottom left-hand corner is the location button, tap this and as standard you’ll be taken to your current location. Now in the right-hand bottom corner there is a Map Options button, tap this and you can choose from a standard Map overlay, Satellite, Transit or Traffic maps, each one doing a decent job of matching up with what its name describes.

The only other big change you’ll notice about the layout is that along with the time in the top right-hand corner, you’ll also now find a little Nokia logo.

You can add more function buttons simply by tapping the screen, as Search, Popular Places and Favourites icons pop up allowing you to personalise the app to match the way you like to use Nokia Maps.

One new feature added to the foot of the screen allows you to search for places in your vicinity without the need to clutter the map. Other new features include being able to write a review of place from your Windows Phone and upload it. What’s more, you can now even add photos linked directly to places on Nokia Maps, adding that extra sense of personalisation and social media sharing that most users like.

We really like Nokia Maps 2.0.21.304, as it’s a great update and well worth getting hold of when it comes to your Nokia Lumia Windows Phone. You’ll know when it’s arrived as the Live Tile for Marketplace will let you know you have an update and then all you need do is download and enjoy!
