Windows Phone 7.8 versus Windows Phone 8: What can we expect?
Windows Phone 7.8 is set to be the next step forward for the current generation of Nokia Lumia smartphones but what will is actually offer? Well, it seems more details have been revealed and show some pretty interesting features and a clear upgrade path.
Microsoft has announced that Windows Phone 8 will be coming later this year and even showed off the new Start screen recently. Now, we now this will also be coming to the current array of Nokia Lumia smartphones as part of the Windows Phone 7.8 update.
Due to the way Microsoft has structured the core of Windows Phone 8, it seems current devices won’t be able to take advantage of the operating system but that doesn’t mean development will end. You just need to look at the various Apple and Android variants out there to see that diversification is a part of modern smartphone life.
However, the guys over at wmpoweruser have turned up an interesting chart that highlights the features the Windows Phone 7.8 update will deliver. Sure, we won’t get IE10 as this is solely for Windows Phone 8 at this stage, but it looks apps, such as the DataSmart that monitors your data usage and akin to Counters that Nokia has already announced for Lumia smartphones.

It seems for the most part that Windows Phone 8 will bake a number of functions, such as Skype and DataSmart, into the operating system, while Windows Phone 7.8 will have to download and bolt on similar features.
