Discover the unique Nokia lenses for Windows Phone 8 camera

Windows Phone 8 on the Nokia Lumia 820 and Nokia Lumia 920 comes with a number of camera apps unique to Nokia handsets. Let’s take a look at Smart Shoot, Cinemagraph, Panorama and CNN iReport lens apps.

Whether you opt for a Nokia Lumia 820 or the more high-end Nokia Lumia 920 you’ll find that Nokia is pushing the differentiation by offering a host of apps you simply won’t find on the likes of the HTC and Samsung devices. What’s more, you won’t find them on the Windows Phone Store, the only place you’ll be able to find them is in the Nokia Collection on your handset.

Be the first to own the Nokia Lumia 920

This is no more evident than in the number of camera Lenses, as Microsoft is calling its new feature of allowing apps to enhance the basic camera functionality. We’ve got our hands on the Nokia Lumia 820 and of the six lenses that have launched alongside Windows Phone 8 you’ll find that four of them are exclusive to Nokia Lumia.

Panorama

You can get the biggest and best picture possible with this easy-to-use Panorama app. Simply take your pictures and the app automatically stitches them together. Once finished you can share with Facebook and Twitter, or simply back up to SkyDrive.

We’ve found that Panorama builds on the success of the Camera Extras feature for Windows Phone 7.5. What makes this app so easy to use is that once you’ve snapped your first shot all you need do is follow the onscreen guide to get the next perfect image, something other apps forget to do!

Cinemagraph

Known as the ‘Harry Potter effect’ app as you can magically blend movie like animations in with your standard photos, Cinemagraph is a fun but versatile app. The on-screen guide helps you select the portion of screen you want to animate and then saves it for future playback.

We’ve found that Cinemagraph can be a little tricky to get to grips with but there is no denying the fun shots that can be had with this lens.

Smart Shoot

This lens is a neat little trick whereby it shoots five frames of each picture so you can pick the best faces from each frame and make up the perfect image – making it ideal for when you’re shooting multiple subject

Alternatively, you can pick your favourite of the five images shot and remove any people or objects you don’t want in the shot, so getting rid of the incriminating evidence of you night out. When you’re done editing you can easily share using Facebook, Flickr or Twitter.

CNN iReport

The CNN app is unique to Nokia Lumia for Windows Phone and keeps you up to date with all the headlines and news going on around the world. CNN iReport is a lens that allows you to become part of the news as you can upload video and photos directly from your Nokia Lumia camera using this app.

Nokia is making sure that the camera on your Windows Phone 8 offers the best experience ever and with the first clutch of lenses already establishing Nokia as the leader, why would you want to opt for any other Windows Phone?

If you want to know more, then Nokia Conversations has done its own neat roundup of the main Nokia Lenses with some great hands-on photos example.
