How to sync your Windows Phone 8 Nokia Lumia with Windows 7
Windows 8 is so new it’s highly likely you’re connecting your Nokia Lumia 920 or Nokia Lumia 820 with a Windows 7 laptop or even using an Apple Mac. Here we look at How to sync your Windows Phone 8 Nokia Lumia with Windows 7 with ease.
Zune is no more, as Windows Phone 8 no longer requires the software to share music, photos and video between your Windows Phone 8 smartphone and Windows 8 computer. However, what happens, if like us, you’re still using a Windows 7 machine?
Thankfully, the Windows Phone app for desktop has been launched and will allow those with older PC operating systems to share information to and from their new Nokia Lumia 820 or Nokia 920.
It’s a free download and is still very much in the Beta phase. Before we could install it we had to download and setup an extra piece of software, .NET 4 Framework, so it’s not as slick as we’re hoping the finished Windows Phone app for desktop will be.
With that in mind, allow yourself a good 20 minutes to get it downloaded and setup before being able to start sharing information.
Once installed, it works by scanning your PC and looking for all your music, photos and video content before compiling it into three separate lists. Depending on how much media you have on your computer will determine how long this scan takes – it took our laptop around 15 minutes, for example. Once the list is compiled it offers you the option to synchronise all media, or for you to manually select what you want to move across.
Windows Phone app for desktop is a much needed stop gap for those who have switched to Windows Phone 8 on the Nokia Lumia 920 and Nokia Lumia 820 but have not yet upgraded to Windows 8.
What happens if you’re running a Mac rather than Windows 7? Fear not as that’s also been thought of and you can use the Windows Phone app for Mac instead!
