Transfer My Data hands-on for Nokia Lumia Windows Phone 8

Transfer My Data is an app for Nokia Lumia smartphones running Windows Phone 8, so the Nokia Lumia 920 and Nokia Lumia 820, which allow you to copy over any contacts you have on an old phone Bluetooth.

Transfer My Data is a quick and easy app to use that is exclusive to the Nokia Collection that makes it easy to switch content from your old phone to your new Nokia Lumia.

20 apps exclusive to the Nokia Lumia running Windows Phone 8

If you’re moving from an older Windows Phone to the new Windows Phone 8 you won’t need this app as your data will essentially move with you, as long as you’ve backed it all up to your Live account.

It’s safe to admit that Transfer My Data over sells what it can actually do, as it won’t move all your data, just your Contacts. It does this using Bluetooth, so as long as your old phone has the wireless technology on-board you’re good to go.

Transfer My Data is aimed at those moving from other smartphone platforms, or even switching to a smartphone for the first time. Simply make sure you have Bluetooth switched on on your old phone and that it can easily be detected and paired.

Transfer My Data will then pull up the details of the Contacts list on your old phone and ask you if you want to proceed. Hit Start and they will be moved over. The process is quick and easy and once copied you’ll find your People Hub has been populated.

Transfer My Data is pretty much one of those apps you’ll use once and then simply forget about. If you’re an advanced user you probably won’t even need it at all. However, first time smartphone users will be glad that something like this actually exists and can be found on the Nokia Lumia running Windows Phone 8.

and another comment, it doesn’t seem to work with the Nokia N900

After a bit more investigation I think the problem is with the PhoneSwitch app on the Nokia 5800 NOT transfer my data on the Lumia 920, I have a few older Nokia phones and I get the same issue when I try to import my sms messages between those phones (as long as there are loads of sms messages too), but if only say like 3000 sms it works. Example I tried import messages from N8 to my Nokia 5800 the same issue occurred I’m trying to think of a way to perhaps do the import into 2 go, so splitting my sms messages in half (if thats even possible). Unless I get a better idea

Lew: We’ve had a quick word with Nokia and they’re looking into it. Early word is that you’ve too many SMS messages. Will let you know what feedback we get!

I’m trying to import my sms from my old Nokia n8 to my Lumia 920, now I
have like 4500 sms (between sent and recieved), when i try using this
app it seems like its working but never completes and it brings no sms
over. i suspect its due to the amount of sms i have. as when i tried to
import from my nokia n5800 to lumia 920 that worked (but that phone
    didnt have as many sms).

is there like some limitation on this app with the amount of sms before the app fails? any help is appreciated
