Nokia City Lens update adds Sightline and Freeze functions to Augmented Reality app for Windows Phone
Nokia has released an update to the hugely popular augmented reality app Nokia City Lens for both Windows Phone 8 and Windows Phone 7.5. So, whether you own the new Nokia Lumia 920 or the older Nokia Lumia 800 classic, you’ll find 3D mapping just got a whole lot easier.
Nokia City Lens in an integrated experience on Nokia Lumia devices running Windows Phone 8. It allows you to see the world around you in a completely new way and explore what’s on your doorstep with ease.
Nokia City Lens has been updated to version 220.127.116.112 and is rolling out to Nokia Lumia handsets via the Nokia Collection. It’s based on LiveSight, the Nokia technology that gives the most precise and intuitive augmented reality and highly accurate 3D maps of the world.
What’s more, if you’re running Windows Phone 7.5 you’ll find that Nokia City Lens has also been updated for you too, bringing many of the features out of beta status and making it a fully-fledged app in its own right.
The following features were added to the beta version of Nokia City Lens back in November 2012 but are now a regular part of the app.
See just what’s in front of you. Normally, City Lens shows you all the places nearby—even around the corner or a block away. In crowded areas, that can be a lot to take in. Our new Sightline features lets you switch your view to only what’s in your direct line of sight, making it easier to spot great places that are right in front of you.
Get information while you look. Now you can quickly view a place’s address without leaving your camera view. Just tap to view the information overlaid on your display while you keep scanning. When you’re ready to learn more about the place, another tap pulls up its complete information.
Pause your view
When scanning your surroundings in camera view, you can now freeze your view and study your options without having to keep your phone pointed at the target. Just tap and the screen “freezes,” letting you browse the scene more comfortably.
Pin categories to start
Your favorite searches with a tap. City Lens now lets you pin individual categories to your home screen, so you can jump directly to your favorite searches with just a tap. Art buff? Create a Sights tile. Foodie? Create a Food tile. Wherever you are, you can instantly find what you love.
Create Rich Live Tiles
What you want at a glance. City Lens lets you search for your favorite things whether it’s books or sushi and lets you pin your favorite searches to your home screen. Wherever you are, you’ll be able to see your closest options within the live tile right on your home screen without even having to launch the app. Just glance and go. Or tap to see what else is nearby.
