Why gamers love Nokia Lumia 800

With access to your Xbox Live account, a growing catalogue of excellent games, a vibrant screen and a 1.4GHz processor, the Nokia Lumia 800 was always likely to be attractive to mobile gamers. Fresh stats revealed by a leading Windows Phone indie games developer suggests that’s certainly been the case.

Top 5 games of 2012 for Nokia Lumia 800

Windows Phone’s burgeoning Xbox Live games scene attracts a fair amount of attention. It’s no surprise, really, given that the Windows Phone versions of greats such as Angry Birds, Flight Control and Plants vs. Zombies are arguably the best on any platform – nothing beats adding to your Xbox Live Gamerscore on the move.

But there’s also a blossoming indie game scene on the platform, and it’s through this fact that we’ve learned how popular the Nokia Lumia 800 is with gamers.

Developer Elbert Perez is responsible for a bunch of fine free games on the Windows Phone Marketplace – titles including Air Dagger, Impossible Shoota and Armored Drive. In fact, Perez has enjoyed more than one million downloads of his games to date.

On his blog, Occasional Gamer, Perez recently released some stats that break down these downloads by device, and it makes for interesting reading. The Nokia Lumia 800 emerges as the most popular second generation Windows Phone device, while combined with the Nokia Lumia 710 (which is already available in a number of territories around the world) Nokia is responsible for almost half of all second generation handsets to have downloaded Perez’s games.

So, if you’re in the market for a smartphone with serious gaming chops, the Nokia Lumia 800 and – from February in the UK – the Nokia Lumia 710 deserve to be right at the top of your list.

Ninja Shooter appears to unashamedly borrow concepts laid on by many more successful games in its puzzle genre. The aim is to match up colours to score points. We’ve played so many of these types of games, yet they never stop being fun.

Rogue Fighter

If you fancy a free fighter that wont’ break the piggy bank as bad as this game breaks its opponents backs, then Rogue Fighter is a worthy time-waster in which players pit their martial arts skills against other hopefuls.

New Angry Birds Seasons due December for Nokia smartphones

From December Nokia smartphone owners can look forward to new Angry Birds levels from developer Rovio, who last night at Nokia House were celebrating the official launch of Angry Birds: Bad Piggies’ Egg Recipes and Angry Birds: The Big Green Doodle Book. More on those new levels, and some great Angry Birds photos this way.

The official book launch was held at Nokia House, London, where Nokia was also showing off the Angry Birds game on the recently released Nokia Lumia 800.

Angry Birds has racked up over half a billion downloads, so it’s not surprising to hear that more Angry Birds levels will be flying into action from 1st December 2011. Unfortunately a Rovio spokesperson wasn’t allowed to tell us any more details about the levels themselves, but we do know that the new levels will soon be hitting the latest Nokia smartphones.

Over the years Nokia has struck up a long-lasting relationship with Rovio, who told NokNok it wants to expand into other forms of entertainment, including toys and books.

Celebrity Chef extraordinaire Aldo Zilli was also on hand to encourage NokNok to sample a mouthful of recipes from the ‘Angry Birds: Bad Piggies’ Egg Recipes cookbook’ packed with egg-themed recipes for children and young-at-heart chefs.

Comically-named recipes with step-by-step instructions are accompanied by amusing Angry Birds illustrations sure to raise a chuckle from fans of the game.

Rovio’s newest book – ‘Angry Birds: The Big Green Doodle Book’ is a colouring book filled with 100 doodles for Angry Birds fans aged “3 to 103”. Both are available now from number of online retailers including Amazon and Play.com.
